Hand Building Functional Pots with a Focus on Surface Decoration
Explore coil, pinch, carving, handles, and feet to create functional ceramic pieces for the table and home, such as dishes and candle holders. Learn surface decoration techniques like wax resist, Mishima, and inlay. Students are required to bring a variety of underglaze colors.

About the Instructor:
Melissa Weiss, a full-time ceramic artist based in Asheville, NC, creates illustrative, functional ceramics using wild clay from her land in the Arkansas Ozarks. With a BFA in photography from SVA and nearly two decades of experience in ceramics, Melissa’s work highlights the beauty and resilience of humanity. She has taught and exhibited widely across the U.S.
