Making Lively Pots, Working Soft on the Wheel

Join us for a hands-on exploration of soda firing using The Bascom’s soda kiln. Participants will decorate and glaze bisque ware, create new pots, and learn to load and fire the kiln. The workshop covers slip and glaze application, kiln prep, and the dramatic effects of soda firing. While the kiln heats and cools, we’ll focus on throwing and altering forms—squaring, fluting, faceting—and discuss techniques that enhance surface response to the soda atmosphere. Prior wheel-throwing experience is required. Expect lively discussion on aesthetics, technique, and the expressive potential of atmospheric firing.
