How does it work?
Whenever you register for a class or workshop online, you'll be prompted to create a user account during the registration process. The information you provide there can then be used to log in here.

- Create your username and password during the registration process
- Check your email (Don't see it in your inbox? Check your junk/spam folder and mark it as not junk/spam)
- Click on the activation link in the email and... Voila! You're good to go!

The Bascom's Education Department is committed to providing life-enriching experiences through comprehensive arts education for children and adults. We offer a variety of educational programs which include workshops, ongoing classes, Art by Appointment, Open Studio Packages, field trips, demonstrations, community classes, and clubs - designed to meet the needs of artists of all skill levels.

Refund Policy (Please Read!)
50% of your tuition payment is a non-refundable deposit. In the event that a student requests cancellation prior to 45 days of class/workshop commencement, he/she will be offered a course transfer or refund of 50% of the tuition payment. If a student cancels within 45 days prior to the first day of class, no refund will be made. The Bascom reserves the right to cancel any program that does not meet minimum enrollment, and full refunds will be issued.

It's all about the Soda
Join potter Ron Philbeck for a week-long workshop exploring the art of soda firing. Students will bring bisque-fired pots to decorate, slip, and glaze before firing The Bascom’s soda kiln. The workshop includes wheel-throwing demonstrations of functional forms, decorative techniques like wax resist and stamping, and discussions on achieving desired results. Unloading the kiln will reveal unique, one-of-a-kind pots shaped by the soda firing process.
Class Schedule: 9 AM–Noon & 1 PM–4 PM
Beautiful Blue Ridge
Celebrate the natural beauty of our mountain home! Participants will draw, paint, sketch, and collage inspired by the plants and animals of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This workshop combines artmaking with observation and nature appreciation in a fun, creative format.
Ages 7-12
Still life workshop - from small studies to finished painting
Discover a fresh, loose, and expressive painting style in this workshop for all levels. Through demonstrations, exercises, and one-on-one guidance, you'll learn to paint with bold, confident strokes while embracing creativity. Oil or acrylic paints are welcome, though oil experience is recommended. A supply list will be provided.
Kids Handbuilding Camp
Try out different methods of handbuilding pottery. In this three-day workshop we will explore pinch pots and using slabs to create functional and decorative ceramics. Student work will be finished in a variety of ways, including underglaze and glaze, and will be fired after the class and available for pickup in two to three weeks.

A day of free and abundant art experieces for the entire community.
Resident Artist Series: "Tis the Season" in July using the Slab Machine
“Tis the Season” in July using the Slab Machine – Learn the basics of how to use the slab machine to make a Holiday Themed Luminary. We will create templates and use texture pads and rollers to embellish the surface.

Kids Clay Camp - Wheel Throwing Camp
Try out making pottery on the wheel. Students will practice the basics of learning to center and throwing small bowls, cups and plates. Work will be fired and glazed after the class and be available for pickup three weeks after class ends.

Still life Painting in Oils
Master painting fundamentals like composition, value, and paint application through still-life projects using personal objects. Includes morning demonstrations and personalized instruction in a casual, supportive environment. Bring 2–3 simple objects.
Playing with Prints
Print, trade, and play! Young artists will explore a variety of printmaking techniques including Gelli printing and carved block printing. We’ll create a collection of original Artist Trading Cards and learn how to share and swap with friends. A perfect blend of creativity and connection.
