Shopping with a Cause
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, visual artists throughout the Southeast are facing significant challenges. To help support these artists, The Bascom is launching a special initiative, "Shopping with a Cause," on Saturday, October 19th.
On this day, The Bascom will donate 100% of its commissions from Shop sales to NC Arts Foundation, an organization committed to promoting the vital role of the arts in North Carolina. In addition to funding arts organizations and artists for public value projects, the NC Arts Foundation will provide emergency relief grants to artists affected by Hurricane Helene through their Disaster Relief Fund. Consigning artists will receive their full commission on all sales.
The Bascom encourages everyone to participate in this meaningful effort. The Bascom Shop offers a wide selection of works by local and regional artists, including jewelry, metalwork, woodturning, paintings, ceramics, basket weaving, glass, and more—making it the perfect opportunity to find something special while supporting a worthy cause.
In addition to this fundraising effort, The Bascom is also offering 2- to 3-week residencies for select artists impacted by the hurricane. These residencies provide housing, studio space, and materials, giving artists a place to continue their work and find respite during this difficult time.
“Our communities are stronger when we support artists,” said Niki Kinkade, Executive Director of The Bascom. “Art has the power to uplift and unite us, especially in times of hardship. By supporting artists, we’re helping their recovery and enriching our communities through the transformative power of art.”
