Short Term Resident Artist Series: Clay to Canvas

From Clay to Canvas is a 4-day workshop focusing on sgraffito techniques on a rich red clay canvas. Sgraffito, a method involving carving or scratching through layers to reveal the clay beneath, will be the primary focus. This class is suitable for seasoned beginners, intermediates, and advanced students experienced in working with clay. Participants will independently create forms through wheel throwing or hand building, emphasizing sgraffito by layering vibrant underglazes and slips and drawing on the clay surface. While the primary focus is sgraffito, the workshop will also cover advanced hand-trimming techniques, scoring, smoothing, and intuitive form refinement.

Class tuition includes one 25lb bag of clay, Open Studio on the day of class, glazing, and firing for projects made during class.  For more information, please contact Frank Vickery at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
