Agateware Throwing Carving Workshop
During this 2-day, hands-on, intensive workshop with Eck McCanless, participants will learn how to make Agateware on the wheel and carve it to reveal patterns similar to wood grain or peacock feathers. I will go over all the tips and tricks I have learned from being a professional potter for the past 30 years with a sole focus on Agateware for the past 13.
Participants should bring the carving tools they prefer. I recommend the Kemper pitcher handle making tool, the Kemper PT430 Loop Tool and the Kemper flexible metal rib.
Day 1 will be spent learning how to put different colors of clay together and turning them on the wheel. I will demonstrate smaller pieces, larger multi section pieces, boxes, ring jugs, and making and attaching handles made with multiple colors of clay. Participants will work on the wheel during this time as well. I will offer help and encouragement as needed.
Day 2 will be spent going over carving techniques.
Supply List:
Students should bring whatever tools they like to use to carve. The Kemper tools are just suggestions. Those are the ones Eck uses the most. They should also bring whatever tools/supplies they like to use to throw pots.
