Sotheby's Artist Reception with Mary Ann Ziegler
The Bascom, in collaboration with Highlands Sotheby's, will present a meet and greet reception with Mary Ann Ziegler Friday, July 10 from 4:30 - 6 pm at Highlands Sotheby's. A selection of the artists' work will be available for purchase. Additionally, more works are available at The Bascom.
About the Artist
Mary Ann Ziegler's path to art began in childhood, copying Egyptian hieroglyphics and figure drawings from books. After elementary school, her mother sent her to study perspective, color theory, and design with a former art teacher at the YMCA, a class as memorable for its lessons in composition as for the teacher's tales of Lizzie Borden, told between brushstrokes.
Art remained a companion through college, but Ziegler's career took her in another direction: 40 years working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. In retirement, she returned to the John C. Campbell Folk School, where repeated visits led her through jewelry, encaustics, enameling, alcohol inks, and fused glass. She found she loved them all. Her body of work now spans sculpture, alcohol ink on tile, functional and artistic fused glass, assemblage, and abstract painting.
Ziegler currently displays fused glass in a gallery in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she lives and works between two home studios. She has been invited to mount a solo show at another gallery next year.
