Into the Woods
Step into the world of imaginative clay sculpture with artists Christine and Taylor in this four day workshop devoted to creating woodland beings, with special attention to owls and hares. Through demonstrations and guided studio time, participants will explore approaches that foreground gesture, character, and narrative, learning how subtle shifts in posture, proportion, and expression can transform form into story.
Christine will introduce sculpting with a simple armature, pairing solid-building strategies with a modified pinch-pot method to develop structure and presence. Taylor will share her distinctive, stylized process for building expressive hollow forms using pinch, slab, and coil techniques, along with surface treatments that may include decals and nichrome wire. With individualized, one-on-one support throughout the workshop, students of all skill levels will gain practical handbuilding skills while developing a finished creature that reflects their own creative voice.
