Transferred Layers
In this workshop, participants will learn how to edit images, make screens, and print custom transfers for use with ceramic art. This process will allow for an expansion of surface decorating techniques, providing all the knowledge and a space to see if screen print transfers can add to your surface decorating skills.
This course will be taught using for adding images to mid/high fire clay. Participants need to bring mid-range pieces should be brought wet to leather hard. Those pieces can be in either red or white clay or both. All participants will leave with everything they need to continue using this process wherever you create work.
The overall goal of this workshop is to offer the knowledge needed to experience the creation of custom screen-printed underglaze transfers from start to finish.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
1. Design and develop images that can be used to create screens for printing
2. Understand the process of making a screen and printing with underglaze
3. Learn and practice decorating using the transfers created in the workshop
All students will be provided with:
1 Speed screen screen printing kit which includes:
- 8-inch x 10-inch Speedball Wood Frame, 30W LED Lamp, 4oz Black Fabric Screen Printing Ink, craft stick, Speedball Screen Cord, Red Baron Squeegee, 3-Pack Speed Screens, black paper, (3) Speedball Transparency Sheets
1 newsprint pad
1 Speedball brayer
a wide variety of the available Speedball underglaze colors
1 silicone spatula
1 information and instruction handout
