Perceptual Color: Seeing, Mixing, and Painting with Sensitivity with Ben Hamburger

Perceptual Color: Seeing, Mixing, and Painting with Sensitivity with Ben Hamburger

Color is fundamental to any kind of painting, but it is also one of the most complex, challenging, and personal aspects. During this three day workshop, we will develop our skills in perceiving, mixing, and using color with sensitivity. While this is not a traditional color theory class, we will dig into how we think about mixing colors, get to know various color “personalities”, and experiment with ways to use our palette to mix any color we want. We will work on a series of short color exercises and still life setups that will challenge us to engage with specific aspects of color. These projects will expand our personal color language and help us to observe and mix colors with greater acuity. There will be demos, discussions, individual guidance, and group critiques.

This class will be great for intermediate or advanced painters working in all styles that want to strengthen their use and understanding of color. Prior painting experience is required. Painters that joined last year are encouraged to join again as we will be building upon skills practiced last year and engaging in some new concepts. Acrylic and oil painters are welcome.
