Expect the Unexpected – A Clay Workshop with Cold Finishes and Solid Sculpting
This will be an action-packed class for all levels of sculptors! We will be taking some time in the beginning of class to work on finishing – with underglazes and/or engobes, dry clays, acrylic paint and inks. A small bisque sculpture will be provided for each student to practice on, which will be fired during the workshop. While we wait for the kiln to cool, students will work on making a face sculpture on a simple armature. These sculptures will be created using a solid sculpting technique. We will be focusing on making a female portrait, but will discuss male features, different expressions, and will be practicing each facial feature to help alleviate fears. This class is available to all levels of ability; but be sure to bring your adventurous spirit and a willingness to play! Students will end the workshop with a small, completed piece for a reference on finishes, and a sculpture of their own making to take home and finish. Artist Talk Thursday, June 23rd from 4 pm - 5 pm.
