The Bascom community mourns the passing of Board member Greg Thompson, a dedicated leader, passionate advocate for the arts, and dear friend. As an actively engaged Director and co-chair of our Master Plan Committee, Greg brought decades of expertise in planning and finance, along with a lifelong love of the visual arts. His contributions played an important role in shaping The Bascom’s long-term vision, guiding strategic growth, and ensuring the arts remain accessible to our community. His impact left an indelible mark on our organization—one for which we are deeply grateful.
Greg and his wife, Mary, championed The Bascom’s mission and the arts in countless ways. Their dedication is beautifully reflected in the Thompson Gallery, a defining space on The Bascom’s upper level, named in their honor. Warm and thoughtfully designed, the gallery serves as a testament to their shared passion for the visual arts and their belief in its transformative power.
Greg and Mary also established The Barratt Society, a giving society inspired by our founding donor, Watson Barratt, to ensure sustainable support for The Bascom’s mission and future. Through this impactful initiative, The Barratt Society will continue to provide essential funding that strengthens and sustains the visual arts for our community.
We will miss Greg dearly. Our hearts go out to his lifelong partner Mary, his family, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
