Celebrating:
• Photography Resident Exhibition
• I Sing Behind the Plow: A Century of Teaching Craft and Traditional Culture at the John C. Campbell Folk School
• Connecting to Place: Blue Ridge Craft Trails Invitational 2026
The summer reception brings together exhibitions that honor tradition, place, and the evolving language of craft. Guests may meet the Photography Resident to learn about their ongoing investigations in image-making, explore the century-long educational legacy of the John C. Campbell Folk School, and encounter works created by artists selected for the Blue Ridge Craft Trails Invitational. Together, these exhibitions open conversations about heritage, regional identity, and the ways artists continue to reinterpret and sustain craft practices. The event offers a welcoming opportunity to connect with creatives and community members drawn to the cultural richness of Western North Carolina.
Each season, The Bascom welcomes the community to gather for a series of exhibition receptions that honor the range of artistic expression found in our galleries. These events highlight both contemporary practice and historical perspectives, offering space to encounter new work alongside significant works from the past. Receptions provide a meaningful opportunity to speak with artists, curators, and other contributors, gaining insight into the ideas, histories, and processes that shape each exhibition. Visitors may also enjoy connecting with fellow art enthusiasts in an informal, welcoming environment. Light refreshments are served, encouraging conversation and a shared sense of discovery across our campus.
