Eloquent and Zoomorphic Forms: Shaping, Altering, and Line work

TBS Classes2022 ZoomorphicForms OwenJohnston 1800x700

This 5 day, hands on intensive workshop will explore learning to see and visualize ceramics through the history of different functional and decorative styles. Pottery will be made on the potter’s wheel inspired by Ben's family pottery and studies while in college and abroad and by Fred’s travels, Alfred studies, and Seagrove traditions. Students will learn other techniques for shaping, altering, and through drawing, learn how to bend the line of an image to fit a particular pot. Students will discuss the development of pattern and how to use it on their work. Some forms will be made in multiple pieces and assembled during the workshop. Attention to detail and the finishing of work will be discussed along with various approaches to glazing and firing techniques to enhance the surface. Ben and Fred will share their philosophy, design, and specific ways of processing pottery along with the pottery tradition in the historical Seagrove area of North Carolina. Open discussion will be encouraged during this workshop. Artist Talk Sunday, April 24th from 4 pm - 5 pm
