2010 Youth Art Program

The arts are fundamental resources through which the world is viewed, meaning is created, and the mind developed. – Elliot W Eisner, Professor of Education and Art, Stanford University

Children need a place where creativity is encouraged and facilitated, where ideas are fostered and a multitude of media can be experienced. Our low-cost, high-quality youth art classes provide the right environment. This year, parents have many choices:

Weekly Youth Classes

Three year-round options for area youth. Spring Session, Eight Weeks: April 13–June 5. Fall Session, Eight Weeks: September 7–October 30.

  • Tuesdays, After School Classes After school art for elementary-age students, kindergarten through sixth grade, 3:15–4:30 pm. $40 for 8-Week Session
  • Wednesdays, Preschool Creativity Classes for Parent and Child (Ages 2 ½–5) From 11–11:45 am, the very young, joined by a parent, will enjoy art activities designed to develop creativity. Basic skill lessons will include scribbling, cutting, joining, modeling, sculpturing and painting. Parent participation required. $40 for 8-Week Session
  • Saturday Art School Send your child to art school for the morning. Kindergartners through eighth graders are welcome from 10 am to noon for fun, hands-on, age-appropriate art classes. $64 for 8-Week Session

Youth Summer Art

Mondays, June 21–August 2
• Ages 5–9: 10 am–noon
• Ages 10–15: 1–3 pm
Bring your child for a fun day of multi-media art experiences, including crafts, clay, painting and more. Sign up for one class or the whole session! Pre-registration required due to space limitations. $12/class or $60 for six-week session

Intergenerational Art Days

More than 20 classes for all ages – grandparent, parent, aunt or uncle with child – to have a meaningful day creating together. Click here to see offerings.

Art from Nature: Sculpture Workshop for Ages 8 through Teens

Judy Richardson (Artist-in-Residence)
June 22–26
10 am–4 pm
Cost: $375 Bascom members/ $400 non-members (includes all materials)
www.judy-richardson.com
Youth will spend a week creating art inspired by and interactive with the environment. Learn from the sculptor who built the peaches in the movie “James and the Giant Peach” and have an action-packed week of creating structures, environments, and animal habitats by drawing, painting, nailing, wrapping, sewing, binding, gathering and constructing! While internationally acclaimed Patrick Dougherty creates a site-specific sculpture from gathered saplings on The Bascom campus, workshop students will have the opportunity to create their own environmental sculptures.
